Pregnancy Diet Guide
*As of May 2019, Dr. Selitsky does not deliver anymore after a successful 18 years. Dr. Selitsky is able to confirm pregnancy and provide care up to 12 week gestational age.
Foods to avoid during pregnancy
As a rule of thumb, you should avoid consuming the following foods during your entire pregnancy cycle:
- Raw fish (i.e., sushi, sashimi, etc…)
- Any undercooked meat – this includes medium, medium rare, and rare steaks
- Spicy food
Green and red diet of Dr. Selitsky
Instead of keeping a long list of safe foods to consume during pregnancy, you can use our simple green and red diet list. The foods in the list are broken-down into those that contain folic acid (green) and those that container iron and/or vitamin C (red).
Green
- Asparagus
- Avocado
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
- Celery
- Coriander (aka cilantro)
- Cucumber
- Green peas
- Green pepper
- Romaine lettuce
- Spinach
Red
- Beet (beetroot)
- Carrots
- Raspberry
- Red apple
- Red meat (except for undercooked meat as described in the Foods to avoid during pregnancy section)
- Strawberry
- Tomatoes
